    CONTENT:  Parts and Functions of a Cell  Cellular function is based on the  cellular organelles, eg.,cell membrane,  mitochondria, nucleus, ribosomes, and  chloroplasts, etc.Students explore the parts within the cell that play a role in metabolic processes. Students determine that biomolecules join together to form cell structures. Students compare the structure of prokaryotic cells and  eurkaryotic cells and determine that different structures in each perform similar functions . 
    PERFORMANCE: Oral Presentation, Cell Model : Students will work as part of a group to build a model of a cell out of materials they choose, and make a group presentation to the class.

    CONTENT: The Structure and Function of DNA and Protein Synthesis: Life processes in the cell are based on molecular interaction. 
    PERFORMANCE: Model of DNA and Protein:  Students will work as part of a group to build a DNA model. the protein synthesized and any visible mutation.

    CONTENT: Meiosis VS. Mitosis: Cells divide through mitosis or meiosis. Mitosis is required for growth of the organism, while  meiosis produces sex cells. 
    PERFORMANCE: Drawing of Stages of Meiosis and Mitosis, Summary of Stages of Mitosis and Meiosis Students will diagram, label, and summarize stages of meiosis and mitosis

    CONTENT: The Structure of a Chromosome Each  chromosome is made of DNA. The part of the DNA that codes for a protein is called the DNA. 
    PERFORMANCE: Model of a Chromosome. Students will work in groups to build a model of a chromosome

    CONTENT: DNA/Genetics/Phenotypes and Genotypes The inheritance of genes from two parents allows the inheritance of sex linked, dominant or recessive traits. Some traits are the  result of the interaction of several genes. 
    PERFORMANCE:  End Product- Punnet Squares and Pedigrees
    Students will work individually to develop Punnet Squares and pedigrees.

    CONTENT: Mutations and Environment  DNA change might result in an altered gene that can be passed on  to offspring Genetic variation is preserved or eliminated  from  a population through natural selection.

    CONTENT: Evolution The millions of different species of plants, animals, and microorganisms that live on earth today are related by descent from a common ancestor. 
    PERFORMANCE: Summary/essay of evolution video.  Examine DNA sequences to relate various organisms to each other and a common ancestor.
